Advanced Electrolysis is meant to be 4 times faster than basic electrolysis, with the added step of needing to clean the filter after each cycle, which requires coal as an extra import. However, this extra logistical step is actually less efficient than just building four basic electrolysis plants.
One chemical plant is 217 KW. So four plants using basic electrolysis is 4x217 = 868 kw to equal the output of one Advanced Electrolysis plant.
Advanced electrolysis requires one chemical plant for the electrolysis, plus one chemical plant to clean the filter. That's 434 kilowatts. Seems cheaper? But we must also include the energy required to create the one coal per second. One greenhouse produces 0.12 wood per second, which can be burned into 3 coal for 0.36 coal per second. Using three greenhouses produces 1.18 coal per second, with the extra being used to fuel a steel furnace. Greenhouses take a lot of space and an enormous 517 kw each to run, so three would be 1551 kw. Adding that together it's 2419 kw before we even include the assembler to convert wood back into saplings, or the extra inserters at each step.
So Advanced Electrolysis is:
Much less power efficient, requiring more greenhouses to produce wood to produce coal to produce power at the power plant.
Takes way more space and building types for a self-contained unit.
Needs multiple minutes before the greenhouses are producing wood.
Requires specifically coal to be brought to its location, instead of just requiring electricity that can be created anywhere and transported at infinite rates.
If we could use efficiency modules on three greenhouses that would reduce their power draw to 310.2 kw, leaving a total of 734 kw for advanced electrolysis. That's not much better, and still has the production and space issues.
In conclusion: Advanced Electrolysis is useless. Just use regular electrolysis whenever you want stone.
