If anyone takes over this project, one simple(?) change that would be hugely helpful would be to transition from a single colour signal to using mixes of the red, green, and blue colour signals, each with a value from 0 to 255--with a default of 255,0,0 (i.e. 'red'). This would allow players to really dial in the colour that they want and even use circuits to do so. (Adding the ability to control them with circuits would be necessary, of course.)

For example, a line of them could be used to lay out the main bus, with each laser coloured according to what is on that particular lane. For example, the copper lanes would have laser lines that are 138,63,33, while petroleum gas lanes would be 135,70,141. Lasers could also allow for distant alignment for construction. Combined with allowing the beams to go through obstructions, that would allow players to set up 'construction lines' for better base planning.
