Personally, I suspect it choreographs the bot's movements such that you can play Galaga inside Factorio.
I think there's also a section with a maze with impenetrable walls and a whole bunch of nuclear fuel with four biters chasing you around. Some of the spots on the ground contains clips of uranium ammo, and you enter the maze with a sub-machine gun and no ammo.
There's a nest in the middle that will eventually spawn a new biter for every one you kill. Occasionally a bot carrying a level 3 module of some kind will come floating by.
