Amator Phasma's Coal & Steam (forked)

by ldinc

This mod revisits the early game of Factorio and pushes the electrification a bit further back by extending the Burner-Stage and inserting a new stage: Steam-Stage (buildings will be powered by steam).

b [✓] [F1.1.100] Compatibility Request for Bob Angel's Research

Hello, it would seem that the patches made for Bob's and Angel's from your mod startup settings have some incompatibilities with certain Angel's features. I've disabled Bob's Burner power phase, but since I am using Angel's Industries as well, I end up with a research roadblock. If you enable "Technology overhaul" from Angel's industries, then there are many research options that cannot be started. For instance, the first roadblock being "Basic Automation" which requires, industrial science pack, steam science pack, basic datacore, and grey science analyzer. All four are required, but there are no labs that can incorporate all four science requirements. This extends further into other research options, several of them requiring Enhancement, Energy, Warfare, etc. with the industrial/steam packs. I've tried downloading other mods that may provide temporary fixes, like turning items into science progress and so forth. Yet none are compatible.

I really enjoy this mod, having just installed it days ago on Factorio 1.1.110 (due to Angels and other mods not yet being updated to 2.0), but I am unsure on how to proceed with this roadblock. I was considering using "Science Not Invited" but, Amator Phasma's Coal & Steam Industrial/Steam packs are not incorporated for me to disable or substitute them. I know 2.0 updates are more important than 1.1 updates, but is there any way you could alleviate this issue for 1.1.110? If not, could you recommend a mod that might act as a bandage in the meantime?

Thanks,

Update - If you disable "Inherit Industrial science pack upwards" and, "Inherit steam science pack upwards" then it reduces the large list of incompatible research packs. It brings it down to just 15 research options that are still incompatible with both these settings disabled. Although, I am not sure how much this will affect the progress of the mod when playing it, whether or not it breaks it or causes early research that is not intended.

Also, another issue that I've found is during the coal and steam phase, you cannot craft, "Burner ore crusher" from bob's angels. This is necessary to crush resources like "Saphirite" "Stiratite" etc. The basic crusher from Amator Phasma's Coal & Steam does not give the option for crushing those ores. This can be circumvented by simply spawning the Burner ore crusher, but I just wanted to let you know about this current issue.

Hi! If I understood correctly, then the problems of the technology tree are caused by the combination of APM's mods and Angel's mods. Everything is for the 1.1.100 version of the game.
Can you provide mod list (better if you can - save with mods - it can be start new game, I just want to sync all in one =) )?
I can try to write seperate mod-fix for old version. I don't sure it possible to update pumped version of apm's original mods without all changes for 2.0 game version.

I'll try not to delay too much with solving the problem, but I'm not familiar with angel mods.

Yes, that is correct. I am currently using the 1.1.100 version of the game, and same version mods. I uploaded two saves for you to check out. One is named "Save Test with - Inherit Industrial and steam science pack upwards - DISABLED" and the other is "Save Test with - Inherit Industrial and steam science pack upwards - ENABLED". These settings are the ones that I used in your mod to see if one, or both could fix the issue.

Again, I'm not quite sure why "Burner ore crusher" from Angel's Refining is disabled when combined, but if you go into the editor mode and check, "Resource Refining" in "Entities" you will see the burner ore crusher. There is no research available for it, nor is it craftable. I'm not sure if that is because Amator Phasma's Coal & Steam's, "Basic Crusher" is meant to act as a replacement, or if there is some error? Either way, the "Basic Crusher" does not have the recipes to crush the current ores, but the "Burner ore Crusher" from Angel's does have the ability to use the crushing recipes from the APM mod when the necessary Research has been unlocked.

Lastly, is "Automation science packs" supposed to have a science pack with it? Or is it only "Industrial" and "Steam" packs that are available, and the Automation science pack research is just for other recipes?

Here is the download, I can upload it in my Gmail Drive if this download does not work for you.

Mega as storage for file - is fine =)
It'll take some time to discover and write mod adapter for fix

There is first attemp to fix some issues with mod packs. I'm sorry for the delay. The hospital and the work deadlines that came after it didn't leave much time and effort.

Tested only with "Save Test with - Inherit Industrial and steam science pack upwards - ENABLED" save file.

I have two issues to report.

It seems there is still a compatibility issue with Angel's mod and APM. The research was fixed entirely (Thank god, that was the biggest issue), and the tech is correctly set in burner phase to electric. The problem has to do with ore crushing. I disabled the compatibility patch for Angel's in the mod settings to see if that could help fix the Burner Ore crusher not spawning, as well as the recipe for it not being available, and it did. The burner ore crusher did spawn, along with the recipe working. Except, it also changed the recipe needed for steel making from APM. When that setting is enabled you use "Crushed saphirite" from Angel's mod, for the puddling furnace of APM. When disabled, you use the base vanilla iron ore in the puddling furnace to make steel plates. Unfortunately, you do not have access to base iron ore until you research "Mechanical refining" from angel's mod, so disabling it won't work, keeping it on is the only way with the loss of the Crusher from Angel's.

Why this is important? In order to access "Steam mining drill" from APM, it is required that you have "Construction Frame 2" from Angel's Industries, this includes other machines from APM needing those frames from Angel's. Even with both Bob's and Angel's compatibility patches disabled, the issue remains with the construction frame 2 being need for certain machines in APM.

As such, I'm wondering if there is any way the APM mod's basic crusher could incorporate the recipe for crushing the ores from Angel's? If you were to spawn a Burner Ore Crusher (Angel's mod) from the editor, you will see the tab in the machine called, "Resource Refining". The only four crushing recipes needed are,

  1. "Saphirite ore crushing"
  2. "Stiratite ore crushing"
  3. "Rubyte ore crushing"
  4. "Bobmonium ore crushing".

The rest are not needed because, by the time you reach the Electricity Research from APM, you can simply go research the machines from Angel's for the other ores. If not, spawning the Burner ore crusher through cheating or mod settings (what you spawn with by the mod setting) is the only other way in each game. As for "Construction Frame 2" from Angel's Industries, I can offer three possible solutions.

  1. "Construction Frame 2" is removed from APM machines, and instead just made with Steel Plates, even with the mod compatibility enabled, since disabling the compatibility still causes "Construction Frame 2" to be required.
  2. A specific recipe is added to one of the APM machines, so that the "Construction Frame 2" recipe is craftable. That would also need the Steel Grate, Steel Rod, and Rivet recipe to be craftable in that machine, since that is needed for the frame (You can take the recipes already available in Angel's mod for that). Unless! You make a separate recipe for crafting JUST the "Construction Frame 2" itself without the other stuff, requiring just base steel plate. (I would recommend a higher steel cost for that frame or a complex iron crafting process so that it remains balanced with the original recipe)
  3. Steel requirement is changed to something else for APM Machines. Like only needing iron in larger quantities or something else. Steam machine frames that need steel are fine from APM, its just the "Construction frame 2".

Here are the costs to make one "Construction frame 2" from Angel's mod with the Base cost included.
Base Cost - 1 Iron Plate, 5 Steel Plates.
Mod Cost - 1 iron plate for Girder (which is craftable and not an issue in the mod) 1 steel plate for Rivet, 4 steel plates for 2 Steel Rods (each cost 2 steel plates), then use those 2 Steel Rods to craft a Steel Grate. Combine that all, and you get 2 "Construction Frame 2".

To bring it all together, Burner Ore crusher recipes should be incorporated into APM crusher, or the issue as to why the recipe of the Burner Ore Crusher machine itself not being available for crafting would be looked into. Second, "Construction frame 2" from Angel's mod blocks the ability to use the Steam machines from APM due to not being available for crafting unless you have researched it, but you can't due to needing those frames before, which causes a permanent block.

Regardless, thank you for taking the time in helping me with this issue. I understand that I am asking a lot, and I respect you a lot for that. I will try to think of more easier solutions if I can, and continue to testing for any issues to report on.

Thank you,

Hi! I've edited some recipies. The second iteration for fixes. Some of it is seems to be better, but the modpack can still be buggy (

You did it! The fixes you did are fantastic! The transition in tech is perfect! I even saw the Grey Science Analyzer recipe change you did! I LOVE IT! The only issue remaining, that as far as I can tell, is just the Improved burner mining drill. Everything else, the other drills, buildings, etc, no longer need those "Construction Frame 2" except for this one. I attached an image.

I'm glad to read that there's not much left to fix!)
I've updated the recipe for improved burner miner with version 0.0.4.

I believe we are good to go! Although I would have loved for the recipes to remain as true to APM as possible, such as steel plates being needed for the Miner drills, or a higher cost to mitigate the steel being taken away due to compatibility issues, but I understand the limitations here. I'll do some testing this weekend. I'd like to give it a test run before I can conclusively say it is good to go, if that is alright with you?

Overall, I want to express my gratitude towards you. Thank you, for helping me with these issues.

Pre-testing is a good plan!)

At the moment, I haven't mastered all the content of the modpack. Therefore, there are definitely recipes that can be improved. If you have any suggestions on how to improve the recipes, I will be glad to add them as a patch if possible.

I wish you a good game run!
