DellAquila: you are right, some of the mods are too cheaty, but others are quite interesting and offer new ways to do something or force you to do something out of the normal ways. since people can choose which mods they install, they have the option to make the game very easy so that they (or their children) can finish the game in some reasonable timeframe, and they are responsible themselves if they make it too easy and thus cheat themselves.
the only real disadvantage of having so many mods (currently 3k+) for me: it takes some time to browse through all new mods all the time and decide which are useful, nice, broken, too complicated, and thus less time is left to really play the game :-)
