I'm just setting up an oil field now and am finding that the oil wells are too close together to be able to fit pumpjacks on all of them, since the pumpjacks would need to overlap.
In the base game I've never seen oil wells spawn that close together to prevent access to some of them. I guess I could still place as many as I can and then later, when they are depleted, move the pumpjacks to other untapped ones, but that seems annoying to have to revisit it.
There is one 2x2 cluster of oil wells that are so close together than placing a pumpjack on any 1 of them prevents access to the other 3, so that means I'll need to redo the pumpjacks at least 3 additional times to get access to all the undepleted oil.
