Hi! I'm the guy who provided the code to the GearGirl mod that makes it an alternative character (i.e. not replacing the default character). GearGirl is still used as a template by several character mods (including your's). That's unfortunate because it hasn't been updated in a long time, and it doesn't handle things correctly (e.g. it will ignore changes to the default character made by other mods).
I've addressed these issues in a helper mod, and I'd recommend using it for creating your character. The helper mod contains some documentation that should make it fairly easy to use it. If you find the documentation lacking, just ask and I'll try to help. :-)
