This mod seems very promising together with Space Exploration, where you frequently want one logistic loadout in space and another when on the ground.

However when I try to import a string I just created using the "export" dialogue I receive an error saying roughly "string is malformed, try exporting again". Tried it several times but always received the same error. I'm guessing this is due to mod incompatibility. If it is, would it be possible to make it compatible with Space Exploration?

Not sure if you were able to solve your problem, but check out the mod Bluegistics as an alternative - it does what you want via GUI, so it may better meet your needs.

Tried with Space Exploration and it worked normally. It could be caused by another mod you have installed or by some specific SE item. Please upload your save so that I can reproduce the problem.
