g Remember position as well as zoom level

1 year, 2 months ago

Would it be possible to remember (and restore) your last viewed map location as well as zoom level?

It should be possible to add a player-specific option to that, perhaps (harder) also about last surface that was open. But neither of those are things i'd be using in my game at least. Are you sure it's useful enough to be considered? It will be harder to track down where you yourself are on the map if it never opens on you.

It would be useful for me :-)

Would you guys describe in more detail how you would use it and in what kind of situation. Is it even useful if it is always on from player settings, or would it be far handier if you would have a toggle in quickbar like VehicleSnap does? That would go along with a keybind.

It's just that i feel like it is totally not a valid way to keep on as is. Imagine scrolling map somewhere far out in the wild and never finding your way back to player? Without a way to reset its position? Even if this is about building something remotely, vanilla game already saves position on different surfaces. So if you camp your player on Vulcanus you can easily do that kind of map position based building on Nauvis.

For example, my character is on Nauvis, but in the mean while I'm building on Vulcanus. Every now and then I have to help with spreading democracy, so i leave remote view and crush those biters. Now I want to continue building (remotely) on Vulcanus, i have to click Vulcanus, instead on going there directly. The game also only saves the position of a different surface, so if my building project was not vulcanus but on nauvis instead. Remote view always starts at my character, instead of the project i was finishing up.

I don't see why finding your way back to the character could be a thing? leave remote view and you are back at your character? and also in the remote view you can always see the character name if you somehow want to remote view near your character?

So if you do combat on Nauvis you will have to open Nauvis map, because you need to see where the hives are as you go. Minimap is too small for that. Now if you close map like that it will save Nauvis as your last opened location. Then you would still have to open Vulcanus manually again to continue building. And the game already remembers the position you left map in there.

In that situation, I would zoom in the minimap instead if necessary.
