It should be still working. Stock music is weighted at the same priority as the new tracks so you may get vanilla tracks still.
Troubleshooting steps:
A) Make sure the mod is enabled.
B) Restart.
C) Wait for track to play in game, if impatient or want to test keep restarting game until main menu appears.
D) If no music persists and troubleshooting has failed please list any OTHER mods (in particular any other sound mods as they don't always play nice with each other) you may have installed and I'll see what I can figure out in time.
As for a smaller (lower quality tracks) sized mod or multiple piecemeal style mods, maybe one day. Sound mods are kinda tedious to test and I just don't have the time as I used too.
